Rs 116 crore budget for only 121 beds at VS!

AHMEDABAD: Mayor Meenakshi Patel on Monday surprised many by dishing out an annual budget of Rs 116 crore for only 121 beds at the VS hospital! She was presenting the VS Hospital budget.

Patel, who is the chairperson of VS Hospital, had excluded 1,085 other beds in the hospital which have now been shown under the AMC-run Medical Education Trust (MET).

For the first time, the four independent trustees of board of management of the 85-year-old VS General Chinai Maternity Hospital took a strong objection to the budget, terming it non-transparent. They questioned the legal status of the MET.

They alleged that the AMC was all set to make quality healthcare and medical education unaffordable for the poor. The four members, who belonged to the donor families, were Brijesh Chinai, Rupa Chinai, Jay Sheth and VF Shah. Rupa Chinai said, "Today, a student pays Rs 20 lakh for a basic MBBS course at MET-run medical college, Rs 12 lakh for a postgraduate course. How do you think poor and tribal students can ever dream of becoming doctors? The whole infrastructure was erected using public money and so are salaries paid to professors out of public money. But this college functions as a self-financed college!"

Chinai also pointed out that the budget had earmarked just Rs 30 lakh for free medicines for the poor. "It is disheartening to know that the AMC thinks that a poor person should get just Rs 8 for his medicines. Which medicine strip costs Rs 8 today?" she asked.

Jay Sheth said, "Today, Rs 10 crore worth of equipment is to be bought. But instead of the board being involved in the purchase, the central medical stores would purchase the equipment on behalf of MET. This is completely illegal."

Woman from Bihar feared killed found alive in Odhav

AHMEDABAD: A woman from Bihar, who was believed to have been murdered by her husband, was found at NariSanrakshanGruh in Odhav. It was a great relief for Amita's husband Ravindra and father KishanMistry. In fact, Mistry had alleged that Ravindra had killed Amita.

An official of the women and child welfare department, Hasmukh Patel, said that they handed over Amita to her father who was called from Bihar to get her custody.

According to Patel, Amita and Ravindra had come to Gujarat by train for some social work. However, Amita got down at Ahmedabad railway station for fetching water and did not make it back into the train before it departed.

"She was found by railway police officials, who could not understand her language and handed her over to women protection home officials," added Patel. The language problem persisted at the women protection home and they also could not get the basic details of Amita. "We could only guess from her language that she could be from Bihar. We called a person from Bihar who tried to communicate with Amita. We also contacted a police officer from Bihar who helped us track the FIR lodged in connection with Amita," said Patel.

Officials of women protection home then contacted Bihar Police and came to know that in fact Amita's husband had been arrested by police in connection with her murder.

"With the help of Bihar Police, we tracked down Amita's father Kishan Mistry and informed her that his daughter is alive and is in Ahmedabad. At a programme organized today, we called Mistry and handed his daughter back to her," said Patel.

વૈશ્વિક નજરાણું 'દાંડી કૂટિર': લોકાર્પણ બાદ પ્રદર્શન નિહાળીને પ્રભાવિત PM

ગાંધીનગરઃ મહાત્મા મંદિરમાં સવારે પ્રવાસી ભારતીય દિવસના ઉદઘાનટ પહેલા વડાપ્રધાન નરેન્દ્ર મોદીએ નરેન્દ્ર મોદીએ સોલ્ટ માઉન્ટ એટલે કે  દાંડી કૂટિરનું લોકાર્પણ કર્યું હતુ.ઉદઘાટન પછી નરેન્દ્ર મોદીએ સંપૂર્ણ પ્રદર્શન નિરાંતે નીહાળ્યા હતું. ગાંધીજીને અંજલિ આપતું વિશ્વનું સૌથી મોટું મ્યુઝિયમ મહાત્મા મંદિર ખાલે બનાવામાં આવ્યું છે. મહાત્મા ગાંધી દક્ષિણ આફ્રિકાની તેમની સફળ લડત બાદ સ્વદેશ પાછા ફર્યા તે ઘટનાના 100 વર્ષની ઊજવણીરૂપે ખાસ ગુજરાતમાં મહાત્મા મંદિરમાં પ્રવાસી ભારતીય દિવસનું આયોજન કરાયું છે.

દર્શાવવામાં આવી છે.

ફર્સ્ટ ફ્લોર :ગાંધીજીના દક્ષિણ આફ્રિકાનો પ્રવાસ અને ત્યાંથી પરત આવ્યા ત્યાં સુધીની શોર્ટ ફિલ્મ બતાવવામાં આવશે.

અમદાવાદઃ  આજે વડાપ્રધાન નરેન્દ્ર મોદીએ મહાત્મા મંદિર ખાતે 13માં પ્રવાસી ભારતીય દિવસને દીપ પ્રાગટ્ય કરીને ખૂલો મૂક્યો હતો. લોકાર્પણ પ્રસંગે વડાપ્રધાન નરેન્દ્ર મોદીએ પ્રવાસી ભારતીયો સંબોધતાં જણાવ્યું હતું કે, અત્યારે મોરેશિયસમાં ચૂંટણી થઈ અને મોટી બહુમતિ સાથે જીતેલા સૌકતઅલીનું સ્વાગત થયું. આફ્રિકાના વિદેશમંત્રી મશાબાનેનો ભારતપ્રેમ તેમના કપડામાં પણ જોઈ શકાય છે. સો વર્ષ પહેલા એક પ્રવાસી ભારતીય ભારત આવ્યા. એના વર્ષો બાદ એક પ્રવાસી ભારતીયોનું એક પ્રવાસી ભારતીય સ્વાગત કરે છે.

મોદીએ જણાવ્યું હતું કે, એક વાત મેં નોંધી છે કે ભારતમાં કોઈ પીડાદાયક ઘટના બને તો ભારતમાં કંઈક બન્યુ હોવાનુ જાણી દુનિયાના કોઈ પણ ખુણે વસનારા ભારતીયની આંખમાંથી આંસુ વહે છે. તેને એટલુ જ દર્દ થાય છે, જેટલુ ભારતમાં રહેનારાઓને થાય છે. મને યાદ છે જ્યારે ગુજરાતના કચ્છમાં ભુકંપ આવ્યો હતો. વિશ્વનો કોઈ ભારતીય એવો નહીં હોય જેણે ગુજરાતના આંસુ લુછવાનું કામ ન કર્યુ હોય. જ્યારે મંગલાયનની સફળતા મળી ત્યારે દુનિયાભરમાં વસતા હિન્દુસ્તાનીઓ નાચ્યા હતા. તેના માટે ગર્વની વાત હતી કે મારો દેશ પ્રગતિ કરે છે. જ્યારે હું મુખ્યમંત્રી પણ નહોતો ત્યારે વિશ્વમાં વસતા લોકોની તકલીફો સાંભળતો. હું વિદેશ પ્રવાસમાં હતો ત્યારે પણ એનઆરઆઈની તકલીફો સાંભળી. આજે હું ગર્વની સાથે તમને વિશ્વાસ આપુ છું કે અમે જે તમને કહ્યું હતું કે વચન પાળી બતાવ્યુ છે. અમે કીધુ હતું કે પીઆઈઓ કાર્ડ હોલ્ડરને આજીવન વિઝા મળશે. તે કામ થઈ ગયુ છે. હવે તમારે એમ્બેસીના ધક્કા ખાવાની જરૂર નહીં પડે. બીજી એક સમસ્યા હતી. જે શા માટે હતી તે મને નથી સમજાતુ. ભારત આવીને રહેતા પીઆઈઓ કાર્ડ હોલ્ડરને દર સપ્તાહે પોલીસ સ્ટેશન હાજરી આપવી પડતી હતી. આ સાંભળીને દુ:ખ થતુ. સત્તા પર આવી મેં એ નિયમ હટાવી દીધો છે.આજે ગર્વ સાથે તમને કહી શકુ છું કે પીઆઈઓ અને ઓસીઓ કાર્ડને મર્જ કરી દેવાયા છે. સૌને એક જ પ્રકારની સેવા મળશે. તમને પડતી મુશ્કેલીઓને ધ્યાને રાખી વિઝા ઓન અરાઈવલની સુવિધા શરૂ કરી દેવાઈ છે. એ જ રીતે ઈલેકટ્રોનિક ટ્રાવેલ ઓથોરાઈઝેશનની સુવિધા પણ શરૂ કરી દેવાઈ છે.
 

કેટલાક લોકોને લાગે છે કે પ્રવાસી ભારતીયો સાથે આ મેળાપ અપેક્ષાઓ માટે છે. આ અપેક્ષાઓ માટે નથી પણ પોતાનાઓને મળવું એ જ એક મોટી તાકાત છે. હવે તો ત્યાં જન્મેલી યુવાપેઢી પણ આવા આયોજનોમાં સામેલ થાય છે. જેમના મનમાં કંઈક કરવાની ભાવના છે તેમના માટે ઘણુ છે. દરેક ચીજ પાઉન્ડ-ડોલરથી થાય તેવું માનવાની જરૂર નથી. મેં એવા લોકો જોયા છે. અમે ગુજરાતમાં ભુકંપ માટે કામ કરતા ત્યારે આફ્રિકાથી એક મુસ્લિમ છોકરી આવી હતી. તેના પિતા-માતાએ ક્યારેય ભારત નહોતુ જોયુ. તે ગુજરાત આવી અને મહિનાઓ સુધી કચ્છમાં કામ કર્યુ. આ તાકાતને સમજવાની જરૂર છે. આપણી પાસે જ્ઞાન, અનુભવ અને તાકાત છે.
